This certificate is awarded to individuals who have successfully demonstrated competency in designing competency-based learning solutions for adults. The certificate includes training in crafting effective competencies that promote economic mobility, setting clear expectations for learners, validating competencies through performance-based assessments, and designing learning journeys to support development and growth. By successfully completing the assessments in each course in this certificate, you'll develop parts of a credential or training program. Each course's work will build on each other. By the end, you should have a complete credential or training program that you can leverage in your campus or organization.

The following four scaffolded courses are included in the certificate. Each course includes an assessment that must be successfully completed prior to moving on to the next course. Learners who successfully complete all four courses will receive the Certificate. When you enroll in this certificate, you will also receive our foundational CBE course, "Powering a Skills-First Society With Competency-Based Approaches." 

Course 2: Crafting Competencies That Empower Economic Mobility

Learn how to validate your competencies with key stakeholders to ensure their relevance and effectiveness. Course 3: Setting Shared Expectations Using An Evidence-Based Approach

Learn how to define and communicate performance expectations with clarity and precision to help drive growth and achievement of competencies. Course participants will craft a Levels of Mastery tool that outlines performance benchmarks at various levels in a career or college progressions, helping learners, evaluators, and hiring managers understand what success looks like across career and learning progressions. By the end of this course, you'll be equipped to set clear, actionable expectations that drive growth and achievement.

Course 4: Validating Competence through Performance-Based Assessments

Design assessments and develop a comprehensive assessment strategy to truly validate learner competencies. Learn how to select the formative and summative methods that align with the performance standards for your competencies. Explore a variety of performance-based assessment types and gain insights into C-BEN’s Hallmark Practices and Quality Framework. By the end of this course, you’ll be adept at creating effective, credential-level assessments that ensure robust and meaningful evaluation of skills and knowledge.

Course 5: Building Transformative Learning Journeys

Learn how to design dynamic and supportive learning experiences that guide learners to success, and discover how to curate and craft the right blend of resources and experiences that empower learners to achieve competence. We’ll also cover how to structure learning pathways with the right supports to ensure engagement and mastery.
